History and Identity
Location:
Our Lady School is situated in the village of Mayfouk, a mountainous region at an altitude of 900 meters above sea level in the Jbeil district of Mount Lebanon.
Student Demographics:
For the 2023-2024 school year, the school serves 241 students aged three to fifteen. These students come from 27 surrounding villages located in the districts of Batroun and Jbeil.
Unique Position:
As the only school in this region, Our Lady School is dedicated to continuing its mission, which began in 1922. The school plays a crucial role in providing education to the children of these villages, who otherwise would have no access to schooling
Challenges and Concerns:
The school faces significant challenges due to the dire economic situation in Lebanon. There is a looming fear that the school may have to close, which would prevent the students from continuing their education. The parents, unable to afford relocating to the city due to financial constraints, rely heavily on the existence of this school.
Commitment:
Despite these challenges, Our Lady School remains steadfast in its commitment to providing education and ensuring that the children from these villages have the opportunity to learn and grow in their own community.
